I knew the chinese recipes I had tried were missing something, and I wasn’t sure what until I saw that a lot of other people use five spice powder in their own cooking. I wanted to give this a try and see how big a difference it makes when adding it in. Well, I can say for certain that it makes quite a difference in flavor. I made my usual dumpling recipe and added a few dashes of this stuff and the taste was amazing. The difference was definitely there and it was GOOD. I don’t know what it is about this specific blend of spices that makes such a big difference but they sure work well together. I’m glad I decided to get myself a bottle, and since I only use a few dashes of the stuff here and there it should hopefully last me a while which makes it a good price for what you get.

Although a tad pricey, this spice mix is very high quality, fresh, and finely ground. This means you need to use far less than you would of cheaper, coarser blends. Just a little sprinkle brings most dishes to life at the table. In recipes, again you will find yourself using far less. That means this jar will last far longer than a cheaper, less quality jar of the same size will. It’s a worthwhile purchase, IMHO, and a good value. Will be buying again. I use it on almost everything.

I wanted someting to improve or “WoW” my spare ribs. Some spices have what I want but have added salt. Frontier Five Spice didn’t have any salt. I’m one who likes salt, but only to my taste. It’s hard to add spice or condiment, trying to get that just right flavor, when everything has salt. This product did what I wanted, it added flavor without more salt.I definately will buy more. Try it. You might find more uses for this Asian spice medley. Surprise your guests.

I just received it last week. I used it to season Split Pea Soup first and this weekend on Cornish Game Hens. I used the simmering aroma to determine how much to put in. Home run! Familiar and still exotic addition. Btw I always shake up a new container of spices before I use them. The mixture was not totally dry but came out fine. It’s subtle and there’s an after taste. It probably wouldn’t work for BBQ but who knows…

I thought that I didn’t like five spice blend, but now I believe I just hadn’t tried a quality blend of it! This is great and I’ve really enjoyed the taste of it on all my Asian cooking! I’m really glad that I gave this brand of five spice a try!

Used this spice blend with a few other spices and salt to make chicken with. Good taste but a bit on the cinnamon side. All in all it worked perfectly for me. 4 Stars only because the cinnamon aspect was a bit more than I normally had with other brands. I will certainly buy again.

I like this brand of 5 spice, it is pretty strong and a lil bit flavors a lot, so when using it’s better to sprinkle, taste, sprinkle and taste till you have the flavor desired, once you have the strength of this spices flavor down it is easier to judge the amount you desire for the taste you like.

I am an avid Food Network fan and enjoy trying out new spices. Chinese Five Spice has been mentioned quite a bit on different shows so I ordered this bottle to try. It will last me a long time as you need very little for the big flavor it packs. I have used it in a couple Asian recipes, yes, but one of my new favorite things is shaking some on a frozen sausage patty before cooking. After cooking the patty I place it and a cooked egg on a bagel for a truly delicious breakfast sandwich!

The spice blend is tasty and incredibly well balanced. It’s flavorful, but mild and it really targets all senses. I use the spice with Oriental inspired dishes or just to enhance things like plain old rice, noodles or chicken. The container is made of glass, sturdy and nice looking. It’s quite a good size for the price. My issue is with the way the products gets out of this. It’s either the consistency, either the product was exposed to humidity, either the sifter is poorly design… I need to bang the bottle a lot just to get something out.

… as it contains no Sezchaun pepper or bay leaves. BUT it is AMAZING stuff nonetheless Probably more versatile because it contains clove as well as star anise. Sprinkle little in your coffee, it is FABULOUS on watermelon (game changing), and a wonderful ingredient for any soup or pasta or even on your morning omelette. I really enjoy it and recommend the frontier co-op brand. Excellent in stews or curries or with lentils as it has a nice subtle savory flavor. All in one convenient blend. I keep the bottle on my table next to the salt n pepper. (TRY SMOKED SALT ALSO)…
