in my opinion, Illy makes the best whole bean coffee available here in the US for my espresso machine. The Italians know coffee and Illy is a good representation of that. It’s a little pricey, but not by that much and well worth the cost. Every time I try another brand, I wind up tossing half of it and going back to Illy. I grind about 1/4 of the can at a time which gives me pretty fresh grounds. I’ll never go back to buying already ground coffee.

As this review first states, this coffee is smooth and tasty. It’s very nice (and more expensive), to be sure. However, in my opinion, it lacked strong (or “intense”) body or character. Its name is “Intenso.(Go figure.) Frankly, the body and character of Starbucks’ “Pike Place” satisfies me more, with its stronger (less mild/smooth than Illy) medium roast (not dark roast) flavor and body. I’m no connoisseur, at all. Each of us has his/her preferences, and that’s what many baristas say when describing and comparing well-known brands and roasts with lesser known ones.

Having traveled to Italy several times my wife and I have searched for a whole bean that would rival the flavor we had in Italy. This is actually a brand that we enjoyed in Sicily so the flavor is what we had hoped for. DELICIOUS

The can I got was bended a little (see picture), but that’s not a problem and I don’t mind at all. What matters is that it’s fresh and sealed (best before April 2023, it’s October 2021 now), delivered within 24 hours. Illy Intenso is not too strong, no bitnerness or sourness. No fruity, citrus or herby notes, it’s more of earthy, traditional taste, which I love. It works great with my Breville Espresso Machine BES870XL (the one with built-it grinder). By trial and errors I got to my perfect ratio that makes the pressure gauge to be exactly in the middle of perfect espresso range: grind amount to 3PM and grind setting to 7 (range is from 1-16). I find Illy brand better than Starbucks or Peet’s – and it’s both for beans or capsules that I use from time to time with my Nespresso machine at work. I highly recommend.

I use this in my espresso machine as well as grind for my regular coffee maker. Every time I use this blend I’m impressed. Reminds me of true European coffee. Not bitter, full flavored and a neat little tin that can be up-cycled (I use for my animal treats and growing herbs). Excellent product.

I drink coffee and have before, during and after a navy career. If you know anything about the navy you know a sailor knows about and lives on coffee. Illy makes the best coffee I’ve ever tasted, and I’ve been around the world, literally, twice and traveled extensively to Asia, Europe, Central and South America, the Middle East, and the islands in the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. I like this darker roast for fuller flavor, but all the roasts are exceptional.

I’m using this in a french press…Yes it’s expensive compared to most. Yes it comes in a can and might have been roasted months ago. It’s also very delicious, leaving a mild dark-chocolate taste after each gulp. I will keep this in the mix forever.

This is the absolute BEST espresso on the market. I have searched for years and have tried countless brands of espresso throughout my life in both Italy (my birthplace) and America. The first time I tried illy I knew immediately that it was the perfetto espresso I have been trying to find. Since my very first cup of illy, it has been the ONLY espresso I will buy and drink. To be true, illy has spoiled me. It has utterly ruined all other espresso. I no longer will even order an espresso out. I’ve tried a few times and was just overwhelmed with disappointment. The only way I can enjoy an espresso now is by brewing illy in my delonghi at home. Illy is the pinnacle of espresso, and I gladly pay, with great enthusiasm, the higher price for it. I would pay double the price without thinking twice if I had to. Don’t hesitate, you deserve Illy. Puro perfezioneSome advice, to keep your illy fresh, store it in the refrigerator after opening. If you favor a lighter roast, try to illy Classico.
