We first ordered the medium and were really happy with it until about halfway through the bag when the flavor changed to be ashtray-e. Figured it was a fluke. Ordered the light roast anyways, and so glad we did–it’s amazing–unless we brew it the drip coffee way in our Ninja coffee maker. Then it tastes like burned cigarette butts and way too dark. We realized you need way less to make the same coffee we were used to from cheap brands. We just do a poor man’s pour-over by putting a really fine tea mesh strainer into the cup, pour hot water to fill, and let it sit 3 minutes–goodbye to acidic coffee and over-extraction! This way the flavors of both coffees are outstanding for the price! The light roast is so flavorful, fruity, nutty. Just some caveats with what brewing methods worked for us.

Currently my mother’s favorite coffee. We have purchased three bags so far. Never a disappointing cup.

This Hola light roast is amazingly unique! When you first open it it doesn’t even smell like coffee, it’s so unique! Very exotic and fruity, very tropical. It is mild as far as roasts go but the flavor is so amazing, so rich smooth and fruity. It is decadent when made as a cold brew, and adds lift and life when added to more flat boring roasts (only need a tablespoon of Hola to add a mellow fruitiness). I also love that it is organic. I appreciate this blend, will rebuy.

The Hola light roast was just what I wanted from a light roast: bright, almost citrus tasting, light. The aroma is great. The taste was great. We will be back for more. Also…I found Kicking Horse Coffee through a Dirtbag Diaries podcast advertisement…so thank you very much for supporting a podcast so many of us enjoy!

***Note that due to some vendor’s chicanery, I usually don’t give 5-star reviews (4-star is my starting point) but when I find something truly exceptional I give that item the 5-stars that’s truly deserved. Also, with any item like this Your Mileage May Vary.*** I started using Kicking Horse a few months ago and I’ve been pretty impressed with their beans (I meant to buy whole beans but I guess I clicked on pre-ground this time). I like Kicking Horse beans so much that I gifted them for Christmas – and they really liked them! I regularly use different beans because I don’t want to get burned-out on a particular roast (I highly recommend doing this to all true coffee snobs). Anyway, when I saw this mild coffee I was really excited to try it out as truly mild coffee is pretty tough to find (medium roast seems to be the starting point because people have been brainwashed about coffee by that “green” brand in Seattle who burns their beans. My girlfriend and me really LOVED this coffee. Folks – make no mistake, this is a true MILD roast so don’t expect a strong/bold flavor. This coffee will make it to my regular rotation (but I’ll buy BEANS next time!). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE ENTIRE KICKING HORSE BRAND!!!

I had first found this coffee at a gourmet coffee shop in downtown Columbus, Ohio when I was living there. However, I have since moved and have not been able to find this coffee until recently when I decided to look on Amazon right before Christmas.I purchased a couple bags of coffee, one for myself and another for my parents. When I went over the weekend after Christmas to celebrate with my sister and her family, my sister absolutely fell in love with this coffee and I noticed that they already consumed 3/4 of the bag from making so many pots. Success!! So when my sister made a pot I put my bartender hat on and doctored up the coffee with peppermint mocha kahlua a few secret ingredients topped it with whipped cream and served some holiday cheer to the adults. Wow! Talk about some amazing coffee. I’m so glad that I found it again on Amazon. Anyone who says that they don’t like this must really have a problem with their taste buds. It’s absolutely incredible, so smooth, wonderful aroma. I love to savor the taste all on its own. Neither myself or my family cannot recommend this coffee high enough, and that says a lot coming from a lot of picky people.

Bright and slightly acidic, just like a light roast should be. But don’t be fooled – this isn’t some weak tea, it’s a good strong cuppa. No bitter aftertaste and thoroughly enjoyable. There is a distinct cherry/summer fruits note that comes through strong – not a bad taste at all but it might not be for everyone.

I don’t take time to write reviews unless a product is really good or really bad…This coffee is delicious. I’m not a fan of coffee without milk or creamer, but I can actually see myself drinking this black. It’s smooth and light, but flavorful. I drink LifeBoost and have always liked it… but after trying Kicking Horse, I have found a new favorite.

For a light roast, this isn’t acidic but the perfect amount of boldness for my taste. For comparison, my preferred kicking horse flavor is Smart Ass, so Hola has a similar amount of rich flavor. I think 454 and 3 sisters roasts are a little bold / strong . Hope that helps someone out there.
